Our skin is the largest organ in our body, and represents a series of intricate systems keep our bodies intact and working properly, but occasionally conditions appear which impact the health of our skin. Here are some of the more common skin conditions.
Acne: Acne occurs when our skin pores and follicles become clogged with dead skin and oils and consequently erupt into pimples and blemishes. At its simplest, it will manifest in a few zits. At its worst it causes a chronic rash and inflammation with permanent pits and scarring.
Rosacea: Rosacea for its rose red color is a persistent rash which affects the face. It is a chronic condition which can result in the permanent discoloration of the skin.
Eczema: Eczema is an inflammation of the outer skin. It's a term applied to a number of conditions, but mostly is known as a scaly, dry patch or area of skin which is itchy and red. It can also manifest with swelling, oozing and lesions.
Psoriasis: Psoriasis can easily be confused with eczema, because they share the qualities of dry skin and redness. Psoriasis is actually an auto-immune disease that appears on the skin and has a silvery color.
Milaria Rubra: More commonly known as heat rash, this is known mostly to affect babies, but can affect anyone of any size or age.
Keratosis Pilarus: Caused by excess keratin in the skin, it forms on the outer extremities and looks like goosebumps.
Carcinoma: This is skin cancer. It can be indicated by a sudden change in a mole.
